Do You Have Fantasy NASCAR Anxiety?
Had an interesting phone conversation with my older brother the other day.
As kids we spent Saturday nights at the local race track. But, it’s just been this season he’s gotten into NASCAR. Like every new convert, he’s just learning who to like, hate or boo! Likewise, he joined a fantasy race league with a small, but worthwhile winner booty.
It’s a maddening frustration watching your whole fantasy race team taken out half-way through the race. Or, watching your fantasy drivers run 1-2-3-4-5 at early points of the race, only to see them lose laps, blow an engine or smack the wall. Ever have one of your drivers take out another?
I call it NASCAR Fantasy Anxiety™.
Have you ever had it? My brother does.
I’ve had it myself. Wasn’t many years ago, my enjoyment-factor for the race hinged on the performance of my fantasy team. I tell my brother I feel his pain and offer the only solution I know.
You’ve got to play in several leagues.
If you’re playing 3 or 4 leagues, this multi-team reality blissfully resigns you to a laissez faire attitude. No wonder the ‘Cat in the Hat’, Richard Childress and Rick Hendrick field so many drivers. Don’t have all your eggs in one basket. Surely some combination of drivers will do you right.
Do you have Fantasy NASCAR anxiety? What’s your game plan?”
