So I’m kicking back with my feet up on the couch for a little relaxation after getting the kids fed. I decided I’d go ahead and make some free disk space in my TiVo box in order to have room for all the races and race shows this weekend. I then decided that I’d watch RaceDay and then Cup practice. I can almost always count on ‘ol DW for a little amusement and he wouldn’t disappoint me today either.
At about 32 minutes into the broadcast (by TiVo recording time) Larry McReynolds was just getting into telling us about two things he wanted to applaud NASCAR on and the way they handled the Robby Gordon appeal. The video feed changes off of Jeff Gordon and Steve Letarte in the garage area and onto the track banking. At about the same time that I see Elliott Sadler’s #19 Best Buy car on the screen, the audio cuts to a short silence and then an amusing line from what sure sounds like Darrell Waltrip.
Larry McReynolds: “… because of Robby Gordon being a single car-driver-owner, but NASCAR, they don’t treat Robby Gor..” — audio cuts out to silence –
Darrell Waltrip: (somewhat of a whisper) “Hot damn, did you see that right there, who was that right there…” — audio cuts back to Larry McReynolds –
Larry McReynolds: “They don’t treat Robby Gordon any different…”
Now I’m sure there’s a logical explanation as to who Darrell could have been talking about. I’m sure
he was watching some driver on the track who was about to loose it but managed to gather it back up and save it. But isn’t it more fun to imagine that some hot, blonde, Southern belle just walked by the broadcast booth and gave good ‘ol DW a flirtatious wink and a nod?
