Summary:
20 laps into the 188 laps that make up the UAW Ford 500 at Talladega, Jimmie Johnson wrecks Elliott Sadler. Inevitably, the ensuing melee takes out several other drivers.
Johnson immediately claims it wasn’t his fault. He says to Chad Knaus over his radio, “Car hit me from behind and pushed me right into the #38. Drafting in the corner is not the smartest thing.”
The video replay shows that Earnhardt Jr. (who was behind Johnson) clearly did not hit him until after he was into the rearend of Elliott Sadler.
“Car hit me from behind and pushed me right into the #38. Drafting in the corner is not the smartest thing.” – Jimmie Johnson
My Take:
There are 3 types of people in the world when it comes to taking responsibility. I’ve got all 3 in my family.
My wife. She is the most responsibility accepting person I have ever met. She screws up and BAM she admits it with humilty and without shame. She’s got a firm grip on accepting responsibility. Man, I respect her for that.
Me. I am more prone to accepting responsibility when called out for it. I tell you “Yes, I did it.”, but you usually have to ask me first. Not a great trait.
Our kids. Well, they are probably like most kids. One of them will hit the other, right in plain view, yet will deny they did it. Say that it was the others fault. That ‘they started it’.
Oh…yeah, that IS starting to sound like Jimmie Johnson. I don’t have a vendetta against Jimmie, I like him. But, his history is showing that he never accepts any blame. Somebody else is always at fault. Sheesh. When is he gonna grow up?”
