Michael Waltrip is funny money

Michael Waltrip NASCAR driver
I’ve always considered Michael Waltrip a little too goofy for my taste. His quirky ‘stand-up’ routine that he performs while on camera was reminiscent of amateur hour at the local comedy club. Furthermore, I viewed him as the coat tail rider of DEI restrictor plate dominance.

His average finish over the last 3 NASCAR seasons is 22nd. That’s one place better than his average starting position of 23rd.

That’s why it’s mighty impressive he is sitting pretty for 2007 with a fully sponsored, Toyota backed, 3 team enterprise. Napa believes in his continued marketability for their business. Former Winston Cup Champion (and my favorite driver) Dale Jarrett is confident in him and bringing along the financial powerhouse sponsorship that is UPS. Plus, Burger King and Pizza Hut are coming on board as well. Now, I wonder if Ward Burton will be coming on board to make this a trio of experienced veteran drivers?

So, I’m taking a new, fresh perspective look at ol’ Mikey. If my math and research is right, the man has just run his 660th NASCAR race after today’s USG Sheetrock 400 at Chicagoland Speedway. He has been a great supporter of Kyle Petty‘s Victory Junction Gang. He has some of the funniest commercials. His website is pretty rockin’. Plus, he is doing pretty good for himself going into the 2007 season. I sure hope the Toyota Camry can produce like the Tundra did.

Not bad for a guy that was the class clown.”
