Boris Said Is So Desperate To Race, He’ll Even Drive A Dodge

“I was taking my usual Tuesday look at the Cup entry list to scan for changes. You know, like who will drive the rotating seats in the #21 and #70 cars (Jon Wood and Tony Raines) or how many teams are entered (46 this week). On my first glance there were only minor notes, like Terry Labonte subbing again for Kyle Petty in the #45. Labonte has gotten more use out of his past champion provisional than David Tyree has squeezed from his miraculous Super Bowl catch.

Then I noticed that Boris Said was entered, but not for his #60 No Fear team that he owns a stake in. He is entered with the #08 team owned by John Carter. That in itself is not that surprising since NoFear can’t afford to race every week. What was surprising was the sponsor listed for the #08 is FUBAR All Natural Drink. I would imagine this to be a conflict with his NoFear Energy drink. What’s the deal? Did No Fear not sell enough cases so they couldn’t race anymore races?

From Said’s perspective, he can’t afford to worry about business deals or limited sponsorship. He is still trying to race at the Cup level as much as possible and when a chance comes along he has to take it. He got a ten race deal with MB/2 in 2005 (the team formerly known as Ginn before getting sold to DEI for parts), but has not seen anything more than ad hoc starts at road courses and restrictor plate tracks.I’ve said many times how surprised I am that no team has taken a chance on Said. With Said’s personality and adequate talent that it would seem like a worthy gamble. He’s candid, funny, has a loyal following and a built in gimmick with his afro.

Does this mean that Said and NoFear are done? Or is this a case of Said being allowed to race at the Cup level despite a sponsor conflict? Will Said even make the race? Could you see Boris in a full time ride, even for a lesser team?
