Oh boy. I spotted the first of the NASCAR haulers arriving today for this Sunday’s Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
The track is 15 minutes from my house. Although, it’s a 2-hour and then 4-hour trek on Sunday. That’s right. The state that likes everything BIG, can’t build an interstate wider than 2-lanes. But, I digress.
My anticipation builds with each hauler I see on the interstate or hotel parking lot. To me, TMS is pure magic. Although I’ve driven by it 100′s of times over the past 5 years, I still gaze at it with wide-eyed wonder. My kid’s have learned the mantra ‘All hail Texas Motor Speedway’ whenever they are with me as we pass.
Each time I see it, my minds-eye envisions the tight pack of cars racing out of turn 4 towards the start/finish line. I hear the growing roar of the engines, as the cars build speed. It’s burned in my head.
I’m truly envious of y’all that live in the heart of NASCAR country with several tracks all within a reasonable driving distance. But, I feel blessed to have TMS right here. And now, with 2 races a year.
Hopefully I’ll get some good pics to post.”
