The Problems Success Brings

Jimmie Johnson with his Martinsville Grandfather clock trophy
Jimmie Johnson has a real problem on his hands.

Where will all of these Martinsville grandfather clocks go?

So it’s not a serious problem, but right now with the charmed life he’s living, it’s tough to think of adverse scenarios for Johnson. I would like to know, though, where all the clocks fit in his house. Most drivers will have some kind of trophy room, but things get complicated when the trophy is 84″ tall.

  • What does one do with five grandfather clocks?
  • Do you set each one to different time zones so they chime for various world cities?
  • Do you set them up as dominoes in a hallway?
  • After the second one do you start passing them out to various crew members?
  • Do you get one fitted with a gold chain so you can wear it Flavor Flav style?
  • Does Jimmie’s wife Chandra re-gift them for Christmas?

You might think that the Martinsville trophy quandary is a superfluous question, but it’s one of the few unanswered questions for 2008.

Despite what Johnson or ESPN say, the #48 team has essentially sewn up the 2008 title.

Johnson would have to make a major error at this point. And, since the #48 team doesn’t commit major errors, things look pretty safe.

It’s week six and Jimmie Johnson has again made his signature charge to the front of the Chase pack. Since 2004 Johnson has now won six Chase races at Lowe’s and Martinsville. Lowe’s may be Jimmie’s house, but Martinsville is like his plush cabin in the woods (complete with 5 grandfather clocks).”
