Who would you put in the Hall of Fame?
No, not the Hall of Fame car that merged with Yates. The NASCAR Hall of Fame that is scheduled to open and induct its inaugural class in 2010.
Who would you put in the Hall?
- Lee Petty?
- Richard Petty?
- Bill France Sr.?
- Dale Earnhardt?
There are several more that one could name. David Pearson, Fireball Roberts, and Cale Yarborough. You can only pick 5 and you may hurt some feelings.
I started following NASCAR in February 2007. Before that it was just a bunch of guys driving in circles. I wish I knew then what I know now. What an amazing sport, where one lap can change history. I only know the names thanks to TV specials on CMT to name one, where new fans are given a lucky dog back to the lead lap.
I guess since guys like Lee Petty and Fireball Roberts blazed the trail to help make NASCAR what it is today cannot be ignored. They will be in there one day, but in my opinion, not the first class. I believe the first class is reserved for the heroes of the sport that elevated it to a new atmosphere. Richard Petty…no brainer; Dale Earnhardt Sr…a staple; and Bill France Sr…why it was his brainchild, NASCAR is here because of him. After those three, I haven’t a clue who should be put into the elite class of Hall of Famers.
But I will ask you once more. Who would you put into the FIRST Class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame?
